Helmut Hubov was born in 1960 in Lugosch (Romania), where he began his musical training at the local music school, focusing on trumpet, at the age of 12. From 1974, he was enrolled at the Kunstlyzeum Arad (Romania) for trumpet, graduating with honors in 1979. In 1980, he passed the exam as a "freelance artist with the 1st professional degree in the field of instrumental soloist trumpet." During his studies in Romania, he repeatedly showcased his talent as a trumpeter in music competitions, winning 1st prize at the "Rumänischen Landeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert" in 1974 after just two years of trumpet lessons, and becoming the 1st prize winner of the National Youth Competition "Rumänien Musiziert" in 1979.
From 1990 to 1992, he studied under H.W. Berg and M. Miron at the Bundesakademie für Blasmusik in Trossingen (Germany), and from 1991 to 1994 at the Musikhochschule and the Konservatorium Zürich (Switzerland) with H.P. Blaser, specializing in wind orchestra conducting. During and after his studies in wind orchestra conducting, Helmut Hubov undertook further private studies with C. Rippas (Winterthur, Switzerland) in trumpet, with J. Balissat (Lausanne, Switzerland) in composition, and studied conducting with S. Caduff (Lucerne, Switzerland).
Even as a student, Helmut Hubov began to enhance his knowledge and skills through regular masterclasses in trumpet, conducting, and composition. He attended courses with renowned international instructors such as M. Andre (trumpet), R. Reynolds, H. van Lijnschooten, Col. A.D. Gabriel, E. Corporon, J. Cober, T. Reynish, D. Zinman, Z. Mehta, H. Rilling, Sir R. Norrington, P. Boulez, and B. Haitink (conducting), as well as A. Iannaconne, F. Ticheli, and D. Wilson (composition).
Since 1979, Helmut Hubov has been active as a musician, teacher, and conductor in various capacities. From 1979 to 1980, he was a trumpeter with the rumänischen Staatsphilharmonie Arad, and from 1980 to 1982, he worked with the rumänischen Künstleragentur A.R.I.A. Since 1984, he has been a trumpet teacher at the Musikschule Stockach (Germany), which he has led since 1987. In 1989, he also took over the leadership of the Stadtmusik Stockach and, in recognition of his contributions, was first appointed Stadtkapellmeister in 1990 and then Stadtmusikdirektor of Stockach in 1997. Additionally, he served as Music Director and conductor of the Stadtjugendmusik Zürich (Switzerland) from 1993 to 1999.
Alongside his teaching and conducting roles in Stockach, Helmut Hubov has taken on conducting responsibilities with other orchestras. From 1996 to 2000, he was the musical director of the Ostschweizer Auswahlorchester "Symphonisches Blasorchester’91," and since 2003, he has been the conductor of the "Symphonisches Blasorchester Südbaden" (Germany) and, since 2005, the conductor of the "Stadtharmonie Winterthur-Töss" (Switzerland). He is also regularly engaged as a project conductor for major musical events, such as the "Requiem" by Frigyes Hidas, “The Queen Symphony” by Tolga Kashif, Karl Jenkins' “Stabat Mater,” and the "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" by Jon Lord. Furthermore, he is a guest conductor for the "Kammerorchester Kronstadt" (Romania) and the "Festival Wind Band Luzern" (Switzerland), as well as the conductor of several project orchestras, including the "Symphonisches Blasorchester Stockach" (Germany), the "Neue Musik" orchestra (Winterthur, Switzerland), and the "Avantart Projekt" in Stockach (Germany).
Concert tours have taken him to France, Denmark, Canada, Austria, Italy, Hungary, the USA, and the Vatican.
As a conductor, Helmut Hubov has collaborated with renowned international artists such as C. Rippas, W. Scholz, A. Niculescu, A. Osterhammer, S. Pütters, T. Plut, S. Mead, D. Hubov, K. Schimke, the Swiss Horn Quartet, M. Tillier, L. Tinguely, R. Camenisch, A.J. Visser, W. Forster, R.K. Meier, J. Milkova, P. Vignoli, C. Maho, and F. Mancini (among many others) and has led his orchestras to numerous accolades in national and international competitions.
In addition to various roles as a juror (for national and international competitions), lecturer for conducting, orchestra management, and literature (Thurgau, Switzerland, and the Hegau-Musikverband, Germany), association conductor in the Hegau-Musikverband (Germany), and member of the “UNESCO-Weltorganisation der Symphonischen Blasorchester und Bläser-Ensembles” (WASBE), Helmut Hubov is also active as a composer. His works are published by both HEBU and Loosmann music publishing houses. Both as a teacher and conductor, Helmut Hubov is committed to contemporary music.
